Simply beautiful! Although there is not much shade, the scenery is breathtaking! To the east, you have an awesome view of the city. It's very spectacular at night! To the west is the imposing Cheyenne Mountain. I can't find a bad site in the lot. Although some are better than others, it's totally preference. The only small gripe I had was the entrance to some sites had a steep to moderate slope. A tip: unhook your spring bars before backing into one of these sloped sites. Other than that, this place is great! Close enough to the Springs to use as a base of operations to see the sights! We will be back again!

We stayed in the A-Loop, site #8: what a great spot! We had a great view of the lake and quite a few trees. Chatfield has "grown up" a lot over the past few years and the trees are getting to good size. We scouted the entire campground prior to reserving our spot, and found the full hookup A-loop near the lake to be very prime spots. There are a wide variety of sites to be had, so make your choice. Wi-Fi worked pretty good and had no problems. The showers needed to be worked on and had very, very low water pressure. All the roads are in great shape and moving the trailer through the campground was no problem. A great State Park. We will be back!

A great campground! We end up coming here time after time just to get away from it all. It's close to home, but you cannot tell you are in a big city! All sites have a picnic table and fire ring. Sites are very well maintained and spotless! We were in site #7 in the Abeline Loop. We will be back!

Campground consists of 16 cabins, 4 tent sites and 3 pull-through RV sites. Considering the price per night, the campground was not well cared for. Restrooms and showers were not clean, hot tub was dirty. Although there were lots of rules upon check-in, no rules were enforced. Pets are an additional $10 per pet per site. Good scenery! Lots of trees! Tent sites are along the river and very scenic! No cell phone service available in the area and only one pay phone in the campground. Very buggy. Other campgrounds in the area appeared better than this one. We will be back to the area, but probably not to this campground.

We camped here with a group from work and had a great time! Large variety of sites from no shade to full shade. The photos on the parks website are a bit misleading. There is actually MORE shaded sites that what the pictures show! Roads are gravel with natural vegetation. Our site, #001, was unlevel, but easily fixed with my leggo blocks. All sites had a table and fire ring. I would suggest the waterfront sites, but these go the fastest! Bathrooms were fair, but good shower pressure and warm water. The lake had a large amount of green algae, but was warm and calm. Lots of water sports on the lake and it can get busy!

We were looking for something different when visiting Estes Park. We've stayed at the other rv parks and they all have their pros and cons. We were very pleasantly surprised with Jellystone Estes! What a great little park! It may be a little to "childish" for some campers, but my myself my wife and our 14yo son had a great time! Excellent and very friendly staff! Trees! Trees! Trees everywhere! This campground is situated on a side of a mountain with dense evergreen trees. Very wide variety of sites. All the sites are back-in, but the staff was supurb in their customer service and helped us back into our site (#70) with ease. Our site was halfway up the hill and was terraced nicely. It may be a tad close to your neighbor, but not as bad as some parks. Our site was clean and level with a fire pit and table. We also had full hookups, but water/electric and no hookups are also available. There are a few "Premium" Sites here and there and they seem to be the biggest and most private sites. Lots of smaller sites for popups farther up the hill, but our 30ft trailer fit into our full hookup site easily. Lots of activities for families and it was cool to meet Yogi in person! Although it was the end of June, it got cool at night, but heck, you are in the mountains! We WILL be back!

This is our second visit of the "Group" area. Our party had 10 rigs in sites C & D over the Memorial Day weekend. We had a good visit despite some poor weather in the evenings. The group area is spacious, but was electric only. There is water available at spigots nearby if needed. Bathrooms were fairly clean, but the showers were in need of repair and had VERY low pressure! (A trickle of water running down the wall!) Price for showers is 50 cents for 3 minutes. Most Park Rangers were very helpful and nice, but they seem to enforce park regulations inconsistently. (i.e. dogs running loose, speed limits) The lake was not busy during the weekend, surprisingly! Boat docks were well maintained. Good place for a group!

My faithfully co-pilot and I made a field trip today to Colorado Springs and to the new CG that has opened inside Cheyenne Mountain State Park. This is what our impressions are: To better understand what I'm talking about (site #'s, etc) here's a link to the park page and you can download the campground map. http://parks.state.co.us/Parks/cheyennemountain The CG has several different areas: "Raptor Glenn Campground" - 10 sites on a hill with great views of the city. "Gobbler Grove Campground" - 7 sites in a shallow hollow. More private and wooded. "Swift Puma Campground" - 21 RV sites and 6 tent sites. Open area on a hill also with great city views. "The Meadow - Group Campground" - 13 RV sites and 4 tent sites. this is an open field meadow with group picnic sites connected to the individual campsites. Numerous fire rings and tables. New: This CG is so spanking new, I think no one has camped here yet! The CG was completely empty and except for some maintenance crews roaming about, Hershey and I had the place to ourselves. It's situated on a gradual hillside next to Cheyenne Mountain itself. All new buildings/showers and lots of good signs. Facilities: All roads are well paved and the sites are concrete pads. There are 51 total RV sites (14 pull-throughs, 37 back-ins), and 10 walk-in tent sites. All RV sites have water, electric (30 and 50A), and sewer. This includes the group camp area. The group area also has supplemental water spigots in addition to the ones at the sites. Heavy tables and fire rings (with covers) at all sites. Access: While most sites are back in, they all appear to be able to handle at least 35 ft rigs. The turnabouts are wide and I would feel comfortable turning my TT around. The initial climb from the entrance gate to the CGs is a little steep, about 10% in spots, but the roads are wide and well-constructed. Pictures: Too many to post here, so here's a link to my album. http://gs63.photobucket.com/groups/h130/B26HJ6LOIN/ The SP is obviously a work in progress and you can see where more sites are planned. Overall this is a smaller CG, but a welcome addition to the area. Hope everyone finds this info useful. We did!

Perhaps the best state park in Colorado! Sites are roomy and well spaced so even "noisy" neighbors are not a bother! We were in site #93 on Grouse Mountain and loved it! Really not a bad spot anywhere in the cg. Only reason I gave it a 9 was because the trash cans were all full and had not been dumped in awhile. Vegetation was a little overgrown and brushed the sides of the TT when going to and from our site. We will be back!

Awesome State Park! Although you are in the middle of a city, you cannot tell! Lots of trees in this park and surprisingly quiet. The road noise is more noticable in the Gold Rush Loop, it's closer to I-225. All interior roads are paved and the individual sites have a concrete pad. Full hookups (electric, water, sewer) in the Abeline, Coyote, Pioneer, Gold Rush and Buffalo loops. Power pedistals have separate outlets and breakers for 20, 30 and 50 amps. No cable, but wi-fi was good. The group sites are electrical only with water spigots nearby. Only the Arapahoe and Chief Ouray group areas have a covered pavilion, Cherokee does not. We stayed in the Abeline Loop site #12. It was a great location with lots of shade trees. The sites with the best shade are along the southern side of the loops, but there are trees everywhere! Sites are well spaced with picnic tables and fire rings. The Cottonwood Grove Loop is mainly for tent camping, but RVs can park there on a site by site basis depending on size (electrical only). The only reason I gave it a 9 instead of a 10 was due to the mosquitos. Bring your spray and keep the candles lit! We will be back to this one!

We really liked this campground! It is not as modern or as fancy as many newer places, but is has a great family feel to it. There are many different types of sites. The 50amp area is a newer part of the campground and has pull through sites. Not as scenic as the rest of the place, but easier to get into. Out site was #59 and was probably the nicest site around. It was difficult to back my 30ft trailer into it, but was great once there! The grounds are steep in the campground and most of the sites are back-in. No cable, but several channels available over the air. Out water pressure was very low and I had to unhook my filter to increase the flow. Wi-fi was good. We camped here during the Renaissance Festival and there were a lot of "colorful" people camping there. (The festival is only a mile away in Larkspur). My brother-in-law and his wife were camping in a tent and they asked to sleep in our trailer Saturday night because "the pirates were partying" in the tent area! Owners seemed nice but were nowhere to be found after 8pm.

This place was very disappointing. The KOA website depicts this as a very nice KOA; however, it was not. It appeared to be a work in progress with lots of construction waste lying in piles all over the cg. Entrance signage was almost non-existent with only 1 small non-lit sign on a post. Very unusual for a KOA. Roads were narrow and very dusty. This cg has a few very nice waterfront sites with shade, but these are booked far in advance. These are in stark contrast to the ho-hum regular sites that are very close together and have no shade at all. There were back-in sites around the perimeter of the cg, but these were occupied by long-term residents. On the plus side, the lake is very nice, and the mini-golf course is new and very neat. I would like to see this cg in a few years once the owners put more into it. Lots of potential, but there are better places out there, especially for the high cost of $42/night.

We rated this campground as "fair". It sits in a great location near major attractions such as the Royal Gorge Railroad, Royal Gorge Bridge and Buckskin Joe's. Campground is a little run down in comparison to the website. Sites are fairly level, but all are gravel and close together. Trees were small and very sparse with little to no shade. Lots of dust and very dry. Electrical power is adequate, but we did trip the breaker box once with the A/C and the microwave on. Water pressure varies from low to medium pressure. Wi-Fi worked well from our site #39, but we were close to the office. Pool was clean, but no hot tub. Office small, but well stocked. There is a go-cart track and a large slide along with an ice cream store on site. These attractions were looking rather run down. There are also horse stables on site. Scenery of the mountains is great, but the wind can come up suddenly and usually does in the afternoon, don't leave your awning unattended! We did notice some recent improvements such as semi-patio sites with bbq grills. All sites have new tables, but no fire rings.

We camped here on Memorial Day in site #570 shortly after the resort opened for the year. This is a very good campground with a variety of sites. We arrived late at night and they left us a map and welcome pack for us. Our initial site was close to the entrance and very easy to set up in the dark (And the rain!) The next am, when we were ready, they moved us to our reserved site on the hill away from the main area. We were the first RV in that part of the campground and they forgot to turn on the water! A short time later, the water was on. This is the only reason the cg didn't get a 10. Water pressure was low near the top of the hill, but better at the bottom. I highly advise a filter, the water comes from tanks situated around the area. This is the second time we have stayed here and would recommend it to anyone! Pick your sites carefully, big variety. The main area is essentially a parking lot, but where we stayed was on the mountain and very wooded. When the rain came, it got muddy fast! We even had snow! Several specialty shops on site with two small stores at opposite ends of the resort. LOTS of cabins scattered around. Two pools, although only one was open at that time. Staff was very friendly and helpfully! Rental cars available on site.

This is our second visit here, not a bad little campground! We did have some reservation problems, we booked a specific site several months in advance, but were put in a different spot on arrival. When I complained, they said it was all they had. No individual fire pits, but we could use our propane campfire. Was a bit windy, so be aware of leaving your awning out. Mini golf was fun as was the pool area. This place needs a little more staff supervision.

We really liked this campground! More of a RV "Resort" than a traditional campground. Sites were wide and spacious with a variety of places to choose from. Reservations are a must, very busy place! Many roads in the park are paved, which was unusual. Sawmill noise was a non-issue, even down by the river. Swim area was great! Sandy beach was pleasant and our dog had a great swim! Staff was very friendly and this park seemed "calmer" than others we stayed at. Evenings were cool and pleasant. We would go back again!

Not a bad little campground! Lots of sites with a variety of configurations. We stayed at a pull-through with full hookups. The only downside was that they had the pull-throughs where you and your neighbor's entrance doors faced each other. If we were to do it again, we would opt for a back in site. Also, the power and water connections are at extreme ends of the individual site. Be certain you have extensions available. Extra cords and hoses are available to rent at the office. (Deposit only, I think) There is a great nature trail for walking that connects the different areas of the campground. An awesome place for walking the pup! Weather was warm in the day, but very cool in the evening.

Very tight sites. Your neighbor can look into your rig and their campfire pit is 6ft away from the slideout. We only stayed here one night. Most staff was friendly, the assistant manager was rude, bossy and was nasty! Be certain you have an extension cord and an extra hose handy, the hookups are at the end of the drives far away. Vegetation was way overgrown and scraped the sides of the trailer getting into the site. Can't unroll awning, not enough room. Very dusty ! One of the lower-end KOA's out there.

What a great place! Although we had the super-deluxe site with our own private fenced area and hot tub, all the sites were roomy and spaced fairly well apart. Hookups were a little far away, have an extension cord and extra hose handy just in case! Management was superb! Very friendly! Free firewood was a nice extra.

One of the better KOA's we have visited! This is a very busy campground! I would be sure to get a site away from the main areas which was always full of bicycle and pedestrian traffic. Lots of trees make it feel like you're in the forest. Our site had a concrete patio with table, chairs and a swing. A fire ban was in effect, so no campfires. Pool was too busy and noisy to fully enjoy in the evening. Kids kept trying to sneak into the adult hot tub despite clear postings. Use it during the day to avoid the crowd. Staff was excellent, but they needed a few more people. Especially to supervise the pool and main entrance area. Lots of kids with no parents in sight, be careful not to run one over! The store was very well stocked with Yellowstone stuff. One night a week, they have a "buy two get one free" sale on everything (except food)! And if you show up in your jammies, you get an extra 10% off. That was fun! Ice cream/espresso bar had weird hours, not consistent. Good snacks though! A great place as a base of operations to see the park, very close to the west entrance. We will go back here again!

We camped in the "Group Area" with a friend's camping club. No individual sewer hookups and only one water spigot across the road. No trees at all in the group area, but it has a neat configuration of a circle. Wind was very strong at night. We scouted several neat areas outside of the group area that we will try next time.

Nice park. We have stayed there several times and use it as a base of operations for visiting the Colorado Springs area. The sites are wide and fairly well spaced out, most are pull-through. We opt for the upgraded sites with patio and furniture. Recommend a site farther away from the road because I-25 noise can get bothersome. Cable TV did not work on our last visit.
